SOS works for mature adults: providing
in-home assistance to the frail so that they can remain at home; and
providing health & wellness programming to the more active so they can
stay that way.
SOS reaches more
than 700 older adults on a monthly basis. The agency provides comprehensive
health, social and functional level assessments, respite for caregivers,
companionship for isolated elders, telephone reassurance calls, home
delivered meals, homemaker and personal care services to community residents.
SOS is located in
the newly renovated and expanded Langston Hughes Center for congregate programming that includes
serving a hot lunch, socialization and recreation activities, nutrition
assessments, routine health screenings, as well as health promotion
and wellness activities.
